The Mummy MOT is a top-to-toe postnatal check-up performed by our specialist women’s health osteopath, Beth Gilks.

Just like your car needs a regular MOT to keep running smoothly, your body deserves the same level of attention!

The Mummy MOT is all about YOU – focusing on your body’s recovery after pregnancy and childbirth, whether you’ve recently had a baby or it’s been a few years.

What to expect


Step 1: Consultation

  • Practitioner will take a full case history to discuss any current concerns or symptoms, past medical history, and pregnancy/birth journey
  • Consent form for examination will be explained by practitioner and the patient will sign prior to assessment

Step 2: Assessment

  • Physical, external assessment to evaluate posture, pelvic floor, abdominal muscles (checking for diastasis recti), and overall movement
  • Internal assessment is likely in order to assess the deeper pelvic floor muscles (practitioner will explain and gain consent throughout the whole process)
  • However, internal examinations are NOT always required during the first appointment or because of patients’ choice
  • All examination findings will then be explained with the patient prior to treatment

Step 3: Treatment

  • Personalised treatment and recovery plan to be discussed with the practitioner.
  • You may then be offered some treatment techniques, which may include: soft tissue massage, manipulation and mobilisation of joints, muscle release techniques.
  • The practitioner will also offer you some exercises and lifestyle advice.
  • You will receive a detailed recovery plan via email for you to follow.

Step 4: Follow-up Appointment

  • A follow-up appointment may be needed in order to assess how the recovery plan is going and to answer any questions or concerns you may have.
  • This appointment may also be offered in order to carry out further hands on treatment.
